How to connect Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 to iPhone

Galaxy Watch 7 is the first smartwatch in the world to run a 3nm chip, delivering a 3.4x performance jump over Watch 6, dual-frequency GPS, and a 13-LED sensor with 94% workout accuracy. Wear OS 5 still requires Merge to work with an iPhone.

Galaxy Watch 7 is the first smartwatch to run a 3nm processor - the Exynos W1000 - delivering 3.4x single-core performance over its predecessor while holding two-day battery life on the same cell size. A 13-LED optical sensor reaches 94% workout tracking accuracy, and dual-frequency L1+L5 GPS holds position accurately where single-band watches drift. Wear OS 5 closes the door on native iPhone support; Merge opens it: pair Watch 7 to your iPhone for notifications, calls, and Apple Health sync.

How Merge extends Watch 7 to iPhone

After pairing, Merge connects Watch 7 to your iPhone. iPhone notifications arrive on the watch instantly - the 3nm chip means they appear with no perceptible delay. You choose which apps push to the watch and which don't, controlling the stream per app. Alerts are dismissible from the watch directly.

Calls ring on the watch and can be answered and spoken from the wrist - your iPhone contacts sync to the watch so you see who's calling. Music playing on your iPhone is controllable from the watch: skip, pause, or adjust volume without touching your phone. Camera remote works when the iPhone camera app is open, triggering the shutter from the watch.

Health data routes straight into Apple Health: heart rate, steps, distance, floors climbed, calories, and workouts with dual-frequency GPS routes and pace all sync automatically after each session. The Watch 7's L1+L5 GPS produces accurate routes through city blocks and forested trails where single-band watches lose the line.

On-watch features that run independently

AFib detection runs entirely on the Watch 7 itself. When the watch detects an irregular heart rhythm, the alert appears on the watch screen - no phone connection required at the moment of detection. Energy Score, Samsung's daily readiness metric, calculates from heart rate variability and activity data and is viewable directly in the Samsung Health watch app.

Dual-frequency GNSS (L1+L5) is the GPS upgrade most worth understanding. Standard GPS uses the L1 frequency alone. L5 is more accurate in environments where signals bounce - city blocks surrounded by tall buildings, dense forest trails, areas under heavy tree canopy. Watch 7 uses both simultaneously, which means GPS routes are accurate in places where single-frequency watches drift or cut through buildings on the map.

First-time setup

Speed matters here. If you have an Android phone, Galaxy Wearable gets the Watch 7 through Google account sign-in, Play Store setup, and firmware updates in one connected pass - everything done before you hand the watch over to Merge. If Android isn't in the picture, Merge handles it wirelessly: the built-in installer in the Merge iPhone app activates the Watch 7 directly, no Android phone needed at any point.

Installing and pairing Merge

Keep iPhone and watch within a couple of feet of each other throughout.

  1. On your iPhone, search the App Store for Merge Watch and install it.Download on the App Store
  2. On the Galaxy Watch 7, open Play Store, search for Merge Watch, and install it.Get it on Google Play
  3. On your iPhone, open Merge and keep it foregrounded during the scan.
  4. Launch Merge on the watch; when Bluetooth access is requested, allow it.
  5. Your iPhone will show in the scan results - select it.
  6. Complete the Bluetooth pairing when prompted - takes a few seconds.
  7. Set up your Merge subscription via the iPhone app if prompted.
  8. Grant notification and health permissions on both devices when asked.

Settings - Battery - More battery settings - Sleeping apps on the watch: check it now and remove Merge if it's listed. That path is how you prevent Samsung's background task manager from terminating the connection - nothing dramatic about it, just a setting to clear once after setup.

Using Watch 7 with an iPhone day to day

Two-day battery means charging every other night rather than every night - a routine that is noticeably easier to maintain. The 3nm chip makes every interaction immediate: notifications appear the instant they arrive, call alerts pop up with no lag, and music controls respond without hesitation. Dual-frequency GPS produces clean workout routes that actually hold the line through city centers and wooded trails. All of it builds in Apple Health automatically through Merge.
