The TicWatch Pro 5 runs the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chip with a 628mAh battery rated for 80 hours in Smart Mode - and 15 minutes on the cable delivers a full day of use. Battery anxiety is effectively off the table. Wear OS has no native iPhone pairing path; Merge provides one: install on both devices and Pro 5 connects to your iPhone for notifications, health data syncing to Apple Health, contacts, music control, and camera control.
What works with iPhone
With Merge running, the TicWatch Pro 5 functions as a full iPhone companion. Notifications from every app on your iPhone arrive on the watch in real time, with per-app controls to configure what reaches the wrist. Health data syncs to Apple Health via Merge: heart rate, HRV, steps, distance, floors climbed, calories, workouts with GPS routes, and pace all route through Merge's health bridge. AFib detection, tachycardia and bradycardia monitoring, VO2 Max estimates, and Recovery Time all run on-device with no phone OS dependency.
iPhone contacts sync to the watch for wrist access throughout the day. Music playback and volume are controllable from the watch - the 15-minute charge covering a full day means music control works continuously without charging interruptions. Camera control lets you trigger the iPhone remotely when the camera app is open, completing the wrist-based remote control experience. Swim tracking works with the 5ATM water resistance, and GPS workouts record independently of your phone using the full multi-system receiver.
Android phone required for first-time activation
Getting a Google account linked during first-time setup is mandatory, and that step runs through the Wear OS by Google app on Android - iPhone cannot substitute here. If you don't own an Android device, a borrowed one works just as well. Turn on the watch, pair it to the Android phone over Bluetooth, sign into a Google account, and wait for configuration to complete. The whole session is about 10-15 minutes, and when the watch arrives at its home screen, return the phone. Your iPhone with Merge becomes the permanent connection from that moment on.

Using the TicWatch Pro 5 day to day with iPhone
The W5+ Gen 1's integrated co-processor keeps always-on display viable as a daily choice without draining the 628mAh battery faster than expected - the main Snapdragon core sleeps while the co-processor handles time rendering and passive sensor polling. The 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage mean the Merge background service stays stable under load and there's plenty of room for offline music. AFib alerts and VO2 Max estimates sync to Apple Health alongside the full health metric set. The 15-minute fast charge capability means even an unexpectedly short charging window before leaving the house covers the day - and it means music control, camera control, and notification delivery all run uninterrupted without the need to plan around charging windows.
