TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra adds MIL-STD-810G military-grade durability certification, the Snapdragon Wear 4100+ chip, continuous HRV monitoring, and irregular heartbeat detection on top of the Pro 3's 45-day dual-display battery. Substantial upgrades on an already distinctive platform. Wear OS has no built-in iPhone mode; Merge is what connects it: install on both devices and Pro 3 Ultra pairs to your iPhone for notifications, Apple Health syncing, contacts, music control, and camera control.
What works with iPhone
Through Merge, the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra handles the complete iPhone companion role. Notifications from every app on your iPhone arrive on the watch in real time, with per-app settings to control what reaches the wrist. Health data syncs to Apple Health via Merge: heart rate, HRV scores, steps, distance, floors climbed, calories, workouts with GPS routes, and pace all route through Merge's health bridge. The arrhythmia detection for tachycardia and bradycardia runs entirely on-device and is fully operational for iPhone users - no Android dependency for those health alerts.
Music playback and volume are controllable from the watch even with gloves on in tough conditions - the physical button layout accommodates this well. Camera control lets you trigger the iPhone remotely when the camera app is open, and the built-in compass and multi-system GPS operate independently of any phone connection. iPhone contacts are available on the wrist for quick reference during extended outdoor use.
Android phone required for first-time activation
Initial setup on the Pro 3 Ultra goes through the Wear OS by Google app on Android - the Google account sign-in that happens during first-time configuration has no iPhone equivalent. This is a one-time requirement, not an ongoing dependency. If you don't have an Android phone of your own, borrow one: turn the watch on, connect via Bluetooth to the Android device, sign into a Google account, and let the configuration run to completion. That's roughly 10-15 minutes. Once setup is done, the Android phone goes back and Merge becomes the only connection the watch ever needs.

Using the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra day to day with iPhone
The 4100+ chip makes the always-on display more practical as a daily choice - the integrated co-processor handles passive display and sensor tasks without the battery penalty that made always-on less viable on the standard 4100. The MIL-STD-810G certification means you can wear the Pro 3 Ultra in environments where a standard IP68 watch would give you pause: extreme temperatures, sand, vibration, mechanical shock. In Essential Mode, the AMOLED shuts off and the illuminated FSTN LCD - available in 18 color options on the Ultra - shows time, steps, and heart rate from the dedicated co-processor with the main Snapdragon fully powered down. HRV data and arrhythmia alerts sync through Merge to Apple Health alongside the full health metric set, and the camera control and music control features from Merge work reliably even in harsh conditions where fumbling for the phone would be impractical.
