Apple Watch Ultra 2 keeps the 49mm titanium frame and raises the ceiling on everything else: 3,000-nit display, 72-hour Low Power Mode battery, 64GB storage, S9 chip adding Double Tap and on-device Siri - both operating with no phone required. Apple made the most capable Apple Watch for iPhone. Merge makes it available to Android users: one iPhone activation, and Ultra 2 pairs permanently to your Android phone with Android notifications, health sync to Google Fit, and a persistent encrypted connection that matches the watch's 72-hour battery ambitions.
What Merge runs on Ultra 2
The 72-hour Low Power Mode battery means Ultra 2 keeps running long after most other watches need a charge - and Merge's encrypted internet connection keeps working the whole time. Whether the watch is near your Android phone over Bluetooth or separated by distance, the link stays active. Notifications from every Android app arrive on the watch in real time, and you control per-app delivery and notification types so the 3,000-nit display shows exactly what you want. Smart Hotspot runs automatically - Merge manages the phone's hotspot when the watch moves away from Wi-Fi, no manual switching needed.
Message replies and quick actions are available from the watch. Double Tap makes interacting with incoming notifications natural - thumb and index finger together twice to trigger the primary action without touching the screen. Music playing on your Android phone is controllable from your wrist. Find My works in both directions, letting you ring the phone or the watch to locate either device.
Health data syncs to Google Fit and Health Connect: workouts, heart rate, sleep, steps, and calories. ECG readings sync to the Merge app on your Android phone, so that history is available on the platform you're using. For a watch designed to stay on your wrist for 72 hours at a stretch, the sleep and health data captured over those extended sessions is exactly what Merge brings to Android.
One-time iPhone activation
Every Apple Watch, including Ultra 2, requires an iPhone for the initial setup. You do this once and the iPhone doesn't need to come back after.
Ultra 2 runs watchOS 11, so you'll need an iPhone XS or later (or iPhone SE 3rd generation) running iOS 18 or later. Your own iPhone? The Watch app on your iPhone takes you through standard pairing. Borrowing a phone? Use Set Up for a Family Member in their Watch app - configure it with your Apple ID, and both Apple IDs need to be in Family Sharing, which you can create during setup if needed. After activation, watchOS updates install directly on the watch via Settings - General - Software Update over Wi-Fi.
Installing Merge
Both apps need to be installed before pairing - Merge on your Android phone, Merge on your Apple Watch.
- Search Google Play on your Android phone for Merge Watch and install it.
- Find Merge Watch in the App Store on your Apple Watch and install it.

Day-to-day with Ultra 2 on Android
Seventy-two hours in Low Power Mode is the headline: Ultra 2 can run for three full days on a charge without reaching for a cable, and its 64GB of storage means offline maps, music, and podcasts don't require a nearby phone. The 3,000-nit display is the brightest Apple Watch screen ever produced, readable in full direct sunlight without any shade or wrist adjustment. Double Tap - the S9 chip's gesture-based interaction - lets you answer incoming notifications, control media, or trigger the primary app action by pinching thumb and index finger together twice, with the watch completely flat on a surface or your hands otherwise occupied. On-device Siri processes requests without a network round-trip. Health data from extended wear sessions - often spanning sleep plus multiple days of activity - syncs to Google Fit and Health Connect via Merge. The Merge internet connection keeps Android notifications flowing whether the devices are close together or not.
